Pink Socks

Data will back up my claim when I tell you that kitchens are generally slow on Wednesdays. I mean you can most definitely check with your neighbourhood restaurant or the 100 others within your 4 kms radius who are trying to sell you, their slice of sweat.

The orders were thin and few and with every passing minute the urge to head home grew stronger. 8 pm drew in a steady stream of customers. They trickled in with their stories of the day gone by, while others discussed what they imagined their week ahead would like like. It was the same conversation template.

There is elegance in simplicity and her dress told me that. Her pink socks barely got hold her ankles and yet managed to take away the limelight from the dress and the mismatched shoes. The thing about confidence is that it can do wonders including overshadowing all the shortcomings a miss matched attire attracts. She seemed very self assured and something about that just drew me into a conversation with her.

There is something alluring about strong eye contact. You can tell a lot about a person through it, after all they do say that eyes are windows to the soul. Through the conversation she continued to gaze into my soul as I tried hard to hide my fears, doubts and anxiety away from her. I am quite sure, she realised there was something amiss. My eyes were reaching a point of discomfort, I could not longer handle the conversation. That very moment the food reached the table, my eyes broke away from her and decided to finally breathe.
